black women have some of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the country, not because of lack of desire, but because of barriers we did not build. generations of medical bias, cultural stigma, and structural inequities have stood in our way. the absence of paid parental leave forces too many black mothers to return to work before their bodies or babies are ready. this impacts milk supply, wellness, bonding, and long-term health. these aren’t personal failures. they are systemic ones.
